Here's an easy overview of what you need to know about how patients are charged by diagnostic
imaging providers and insurance companies.
If You Have a High Deductible
You and your employer may have chosen a higher deductible to offset increased premiums. This means
you are responsible for more up-front cost. It's important to understand the difference between list price
and "allowable" or "patient responsibility" price.
The list price is the amount your insurance company is billed by the service provider. However, this is not
what they actually pay, and therefore it is not what you will pay. For example, if you were to have an MRI
for which the insurance company is billed a list price of $2,000 by the service provider, the actual amount
that the insurance company will reimburse the service provider is generally far less. That's good news for
you, and here's why. Let's say the contracted rate (an agreed upon rate for services between insurance
company and service provider) is $500. If you have not met your deductible, this is the amount that you
are responsible for not $2,000!
Here's What You Need to Know
Different service providers have different contracted rates. You can save yourself a lot of money by
researching to find out which service provider has the lowest cost. Once you have this information, you
can make an informed decision.
It is Important to Know Two Things
First, the amount you pay will apply towards your deductible as long as your insurance company approves
the service. So, make sure your procedure is approved, know what your deductible amount is, and where
you stand in regards to meeting it. And second, quality is not always the same, so be sure to research the
service provider.
NOTE: While most medical providers offer reduced "cash pay" rates, quality is not always the same and the
amount you pay will not apply towards your deductible. Be sure to do your research to find the best service
provider with the best rates.

Simply call one of our locations and ask for "cash pay" rates. Generally, you will find these rates are far less
than the list prices found online. Everyone is eligible for them as long as you have a written order from
your physician and the amount is paid in full at time of service with cash, check or credit card.
NOTE: While many medical providers offer reduced "cash pay" rates, quality is not always the same.
